Ouray, Colorado - December 2012

*

December 19th was a snowy day in Ouray, Colorado.
We had a wonderful time, walking through the snow
into downtown from The Box Canyon Lodge.

We looked at many cool buildings and shops, but one
of the most memorable was the old Beaumont Hotel building.

The restored building includes a restaurant and a great bookstore.

The restaurant at the Beaumont Hotel.

Coloradans passing through Ouray know to stop at
Mouse's Chocolates & Coffee to pick up a scrap cookie.
If you're smart, you'll bring some back for your friends.
Their hot chocolate is pretty special too.

Mouse's scrap cookies are just that, made from all the leftovers.
Stopping in for a scrap cookie is like playing the lottery.
You never know exactly what you'll get, but it's always good.
And sometimes... it's even better.

We had dinner at The Outlaw the first night we were in Ouray.
Their Outlaw Baby Back Pork Ribs were really fantastic.
The Linguini in Clam Sauce was also good, but not as good.

Headed out on a day much brighter than the day we arrived.

Box Canyon Lodge in Ouray, Colorado

*

The Box Canyon Lodge is now our favorite mini-vacation spot.
We had a wonderful relaxing mid-week getaway in Ouray, Colorado.

(Pictures from the town of Ouray here.)

Looking from the main office building towards our room.

Multiple levels of hot tubs, open from 8am-10pm.

The water temperature was perfect.
Bring some shoes that are easy to slip into (and out of).

This picture just makes me want to get back in the water.
Outside... Brrrr! Inside... Ahhhh!

View of the lodge and tubs from the third level.
We received several inches of snow on the first day.
Sitting in the hot tubs with snow coming down was the best!

While there is no doubt that the real attractions here are the hot
tubs and the city of Ouray itself, the lodge also had a very large
selection of complementary movies on DVD, perfect for late
nights, after the town of Ouray rolls up the sidewalks.

The second day the sky cleared, giving us
beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

So different than the day we first arrived, when the
mountains in the background could not even be seen.

Stay tuned for the Ouray pics.

Orvis Hot Springs and Ouray, CO

Rachael and I went to Orvis today for my birthday.

The view was pretty phenomenal.

I especially liked the view from this burnt down house.

Next we went to Ouray for an afternoon snack.

What a cool looking town.
