We took the trail to the left.

The scenery is pretty plain, until you get near the river.

Railroad tracks.

Wildflowers

Boo Boo (AKA Smudgie), our little mountain goat.

2011 4th Annual Wiener Dog Races in Grand Junction, CO

We came. We raced. We got the T-Shirt.

Oktoberfest 2011 - Grand Junction, CO.

Bean looking ready for action.

Lots of dogs were wearing costumes.
We'll need to get Bean one for next year.

I wonder if this dog has a miniature Harley parked nearby?

This little one needed a little extra help to get along.
It was trucking right along with all of the others.

All of the participants went on a Wiener Walk down Main Street
before the races. Bean got to meet lots of new people along the way.

Lots of wienie dogs. Bean is in the back left.

The view from the finish line.

Standing room only at the wienie dog races.

And they're... off?!

Sadie figured things out pretty quickly.

She looks like she's having a great time.

Others weren't so sure what to do
once they got out of the gate.

Statue next to the Main Street Cafe in GJ
where we all had lunch after the races.

View of Mt. Garfield and Bookcliffs from Grand Junction

*

It was a bright and sunny day in Grand Junction today. We went to the Connected Lakes, where some areas are still flooded. We took Hannah (the black lab mix), who took it upon herself to hop out of the water after about 5 seconds and go running down the street back towards town. Looks like it's time to buy some meaty treats and do some more work on the "come" command with her. Onto a completely different topic: one thing that I love about Grand Junction is the wonderful view from all sides: Mt. Garfield, the Bookcliffs and the Grand Mesa to the north and east, and the Monument towards the west. One or another of these landmarks is usually visible from most locations around town.

Left click on the photo below twice to see it full size.

Last week of April 2011

*

Hannah and Bean in the recliner.

Started the week with a seedlings ready to be replanted.

So we got some wood and started putting raised beds together.

The three raised beds came together pretty quickly.

A full truckload of garden soil from the local nursery.
This would be exactly enough to fill two beds.

A layer of newspaper to help keep weeds in check.

One bed filled - about 200 shovel loads full of good dirt.

Frost on the day after it was filled. We'll have to wait a while...

Visited the Ute Indian Museum in Montrose.

This museum houses a very interesting display of original artifacts.

A beaver dam on the Colorado River trail in Grand Junction.
We saw one very large beaver and two smaller ones.

A late snow nearly a week after it was filled.
We'll have to wait a bit longer still...

Bean asking if she really has to get up so early.

Scarlet, Bean and Hannah waking up this morning.
