A Bit of Flooding in Grand Junction

The Colorado River was expected to peak last night in the areas around Grand Junction. There may be more than one peak this year, dictated by the alternating cool and warm temperatures at higher elevations. There is an increased concern in the area about mosquitoes capable of carrying West Nile Virus as the river recedes leaving brackish water behind.

There has been some concern that the flood might affect the Palisade Bluegrass Festival. The Public Works Department there is working hard to keep the river from submerging Riverbend Park. Part of the park will be flooded, but there should be enough dry ground for the festival to go on without any major disruption.

I may add some pictures to this post later today if I get to the parts of the river that are flooded.
