Black Headed Grosbeak

We were treated to a new (to us) bird at the backyard feeder.

Medium-sized, easily spooked, we weren't sure what it was.

We're pretty sure that it's a first-year male black headed grosbeak. It might be a female, but it's coloring is not as faded as we'd expect.

Another (new to us) bird showed itself to us at the Riverside Park alongside the Colorado River in Palisade. It was a Western Tanager. It looks very tropical. Something between a love bird, a parrot, and a finch. Yellow body, black wings, and a very orange head.
