Calmly, notice the chessboard, where the pieces are being placed and by whom. Rules are essential to predictable and fair play, but rules aren’t guaranteed. They may have changed by the time you’re asked to make your move. Decide now what the real object of the game is. Know when it’s no longer as simple as reaching the other side. Accept that without constant vigilance and a dedicated effort, the whole board can disappear. All that said, remember why and how the rules exist at all. Know the value and the price that has been paid for that board. Know that there are those in place who have sworn to ensure its perpetual existence with their lives. Rest easier, and stay watchful. Happy Veterans Day.
